And They Played For Days
A series of toy soldiers whose dimensions have been increased to life size. By bringing these pop art pieces into real-life scale they engage you in your environment. They amplify the concept of violence the small toy soldiers represent, and blur the line between harmless toy and media glorified violence. As these soldiers travel from country to country they further characterize the American military machine.
“I remember many days spent playing with these toy soldiers when I was a child growing up in the US. We'd stage very elaborate battle scenes with friends that would play out for hours, even days at a time. Our imaginations were completely on that battlefield and loving every second of it. It was harmless fun, though now I find it very interesting how nationalism and military dominance is encouraged in youth. You have your good guys, the West, and then you have your bad guys, who would always lose in the end.”
