Construction Gauze, Dust, Water
Installation
In the desert climate of Dubai, large amounts of dust collect on the scaffolding structures surrounding construction sites. In the spring of 2008, and at the height of the global recession, James erected a guerrilla installation using just water to spell out the phrase ‘Dust to Dust‘.
This piece was created in one of the construction sites of the Dubai Metro, and therefore visible to drivers along Sheikh Zayed Road. At that period, thousands of people were leaving Dubai due to the economic downturn. The message of the installation was meant to make people appreciate what they had. It then disappeared within a week, hidden away beneath layer after layer of dust.
