Terminator Terrorist / Terrorist Terminator

(2010)
105 x 80 cm
Lenticular lens print on paper, acrylic and metal
Edition of 3 + 1 AP

The image of the terrorist has been propagated by mass media in the West to encourage fear of the Middle East. The image of the ‘terminator’ represents the Western military; soldiers enhanced by technology, supported by satellites and robot drones in the sky. It is in turn the represented fear of the Middle Eastern Terrorist.

In this piece the two images are merged using a special lenticular print, making the Terrorist morph into the Terminator and vice versa. It collapses these images into one, focusing attention on the fact that conceptually, they are both products of media generated fear.
