While Tokyo may be known for its pleathura of light billboards and video screens, there is little escape from the visual onslaught of animations, advertisements, and visual noise. "Tokyo Graffiti" opts not to fight fire with fire, but instead manipulates and alters pre-exisiting lights and animations to integrate within its own design. A giant black curtain is drawn over one of the video screen advertisements and has a large ZERO symbol cut out of it. The Zero is made out of semi-opaque material that acts as a diffuser for the light behind it. So, as the advertisements run behind the curtain, its light becomes blurred into a sequence of patterns and colors that light up the symbol from the front. |
